    Why EVA Is Still the Default Insole Material

    An EVA insole earns its place the unglamorous way: ethylene-vinyl acetate foam delivers a strong balance of cushioning, weight, processing flexibility, and cost efficiency. It molds cleanly and takes color well. Hardness can be tuned from a soft 23 Asker C up to a firm 43, allowing one material family to cover applications from sandals to work footwear.

    EVA has a known weakness, and we would rather name it than hide it: compression set. Standard foam can pack out with extended daily wear. Higher-resilience grades can slow that flattening, while post-industrial recycled, sugarcane-based, and algae-based options add recycled or bio-based content. These options can support existing footwear programs with minimal changes to tooling and production processes.

    EVA compound formulation and mixing are handled by upstream material suppliers. FX Footwear applies those materials through our own EVA foaming, molding, die-cutting, and converting facilities in China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. EVERYDAY is our EVA insole series; the range is below.

    How to Choose an EVA Insole

    Match hardness to the shoe first. Soft grades around 23–28 Asker C suit sandals, casual footwear, and comfort-focused applications. Mid-range grades around 28–32 Asker C cover most casual and athletic builds. Firm foam at 35 Asker C and above belongs in work and safety footwear where structure matters more than plushness. EVA hardness can be customized based on the footwear application, cushioning target, and support requirements.

    Then decide how the part is made. Molded EVA gives contoured heel cups and arch geometry; die-cut flat stock costs less and ships faster. We run both processes, so the choice follows your volumes and tooling budget rather than our equipment.

    EVA stands for ethylene-vinyl acetate, a copolymer foamed into a light, closed-cell cushioning material. An EVA insole is a footbed cut or molded from that foam, and it is one of the most widely used insole materials in the footwear industry.

    EVA insole vs memory foam: which is better?

    They do different jobs. EVA springs back quickly and weighs less; memory foam, a polyurethane, recovers slowly and conforms to the foot. For a plush sink-in feel, consider PowerFrame Fit. For lightweight, responsive cushioning at volume pricing, EVA is often the better fit.

    How long do EVA insoles last?

    Compression set varies with density, VA content, formulation, temperature, and test method. In the typical series data above, compression set ranges from 65% to 75% under ASTM D3574; where longer cushioning retention is the priority, compare higher-resilience EVA, PU, or supercritical foam for the specific application.

    Is EVA good for safety shoe insoles?

    Yes, in firmer grades. Foam in the 32–43 Asker C range provides structure for work footwear, and EVERYDAY Sugarcane adds bio-based content in the same hardness band. The final material and construction should follow the required support, cushioning, and durability targets.
