Ariat Outpace Shift: Open-Cell PU Insole

For a work shoe built around long days, the removable insole needs a clear job: fit the shoe, deliver the intended step-in feel and maintain its shape against the project’s material targets. We focused on those underfoot decisions while keeping safety and slip-resistance claims with the complete Outpace Shift.

    The challenge

The insole needed an all-day-use brief without being asked to carry the shoe’s safety claims.

Ariat presents the Outpace Shift with a removable cushioning insole, separate midsole and outsole systems, a composite toe and published work-shoe ratings. Our component focus was narrower and more practical: define an open-cell PU insole that fits the internal shape, meets the desired feel and can be checked for compression behavior over the agreed test conditions.

For a similar project: For a work-shoe insole, send the use conditions and compression expectations with the geometry. We can help you choose and validate the PU construction without blurring the line between underfoot comfort and footwear safety certification.

    Our work

    What We Did

We focused on the geometry, material, interfaces and checks needed to move the part into shoe testing.

    01

    Mapped the removable fit

We organized the last or insole geometry, size range, thickness map and edge shape around easy removal and consistent placement inside the shoe.

    02

    Defined the PU platform

Formula, cell structure, hardness, density, resilience and compression set were treated as selectable targets tied to the actual work-footwear brief.

    03

    Connected cover and use conditions

We considered the top cover or lining, cleaning expectations, moisture management and bonding or lamination needs as part of the underfoot component.

    04

    Kept validation responsibilities clear

The insole can be checked for dimensions, material behavior and fit; toe protection, electrical hazard and slip resistance remain complete-shoe tests.

    Result

    The Result

The footwear team had a cleaner way to evaluate the open-cell PU insole: removable fit, material feel and compression behavior could be reviewed at component level, while safety certification and outsole performance stayed with the complete work shoe.

In the finished shoe: Ariat describes the Outpace Shift with a removable All Day Cushioning insole, FLX Foam midsole, Duratread outsole, composite toe and published safety ratings. We focus on the open-cell PU insole; those protective and traction results belong to the complete certified shoe.

    FAQ

    Common Questions

Why use open-cell PU for a removable work-shoe insole?

It gives us a configurable platform for step-in feel and airflow, but the real result depends on the formula, cell structure, density, hardness, thickness and compression targets selected for the project.

What should you send us to begin?

The last or insole drawing, size range, thickness map, target hardness and density, cushioning and compression expectations, top-cover requirement, cleaning conditions and benchmark sample.

Which tests belong to the insole?

Depending on the brief, we can agree checks for dimensions, hardness, density, resilience, compression set, bond quality, surface and fit inside the shoe.

Does the insole create the Outpace Shift’s safety rating?

No. Toe protection, electrical-hazard performance and slip resistance are evaluated on the complete work shoe and its dedicated protective and outsole systems.
